So what causes dry skin? In many cases, the answer in a nutshell is ... everyday life. Traditional hand and bar soaps, hot showers and dry, cold weather² can strip skin of its natural oils and contribute to the disruption of skin's moisture barrier. Once that happens, whether it's widespread and all over your body or more isolated and limited to your hands or other commonly washed or exposed areas, the dreaded dry skin cycle is underway.
WHAT CAUSES DRY SKIN?
Often compared to a brick wall, the outermost layer of our skin, the skin barrier (stratum corneum), is comprised of dead skin cells (the “bricks”) and several lipids – ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids (the “mortar” ) – that bind the bricks together, forming a barrier that protects you from the external environment and regulating moisture loss through the skin, which is often responsible for dry skin. 50% of the lipids in the 'mortar' are ceramides so when ceramide levels are depleted from factors like sun exposure, harsh climates, and aging3, it can cause the skin barrier disruption which leads skin to lose moisture more easily.4
Replenishing hydration with a moisturizer with ceramides is your solution to help combat dry skin. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is clinically tested to address the cycle of dry skin by relieving symptoms and helping to restore the skin’s barrier function.5RESULTS YOU CAN FEEL IN JUST 3 DAYS
In a clinical study conducted by a dermatologist, we put CeraVe Moisturizing Cream to the test, having 49 women with dry to very dry skin use the product twice a day for 4 weeks* and gathering both their and the dermatologist's feedback about what it did for their dry skin. We also used instruments to measure hydration levels after they used the product for 28 days.
After just 3 days:
98% of women agreed their skin felt smooth
93% agreed their skin did not feel dry
Skin hydration increased 30% by instrumental measure

THE REWARDS OF BUILDING HEALTHY-SKIN HABITS: SUSTAINED DRY SKIN RESTORATION IN JUST 28 DAYS
Clinical assessment from the same study showed long lasting benefits on dry skin symptoms with continued use and even sustained benefits 48 hours after subjects stopped applying CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. Keeping skin hydrated helps restore the skin barrier, increasing levels of the “mortar” that help keep skin's moisture barrier strong so it can better regulate water loss. In our study, we saw:
Skin continued to look visibly moisturized even after 48 hours.
Overall 80% improvement in dry skin symptoms after 4 weeks
CERAMIDES ARE THE FOUNDATION OF THE CERAVE BRAND
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream contains three essential ceramides that are naturally found in your skin’s protective barrier: 1, 3, and 6-11. It also has cholesterol and fatty acids, all in a non-greasy formula.
CERAVE'S ADVANCED TIME-RELEASE FORMULA
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream also uses an innovative technology to deliver hydrating ingredients and ceramides to your skin, for all-day hydration.
Unlike most delivery systems that use quick-burst technology, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream has MVE, an advanced time-release technology that releases the formula's ingredients (such as ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids over time, for 24 hours of hydration. Thanks to MVE, the ingredients in CeraVe Moisturizing Cream help maintain the skin's momentum in restoring its natural barrier.
